Hello, I am an aspiring poet from North West England. I have won two Koestler Arts awards, including a platinum award (which was won for the poem “Birds Revisited”) and have been published in an anthology from 2023. I have been writing poetry since I was 17, it is a great passion of mine and I hope you will accept these poems for publication. Thank you for this opportunity.
Afternoons
I’ve always hated afternoons
That smug grimace smudged across the clouds
Relentless limbo between day and night
Poisoning my thoughts
Eroding my emotions
Until time itself becomes a dictator
Appeased by my stagnancy
Annexing my future
As my past comes marching back.
Dominoes
We move, talk, eat freely.
Yet, all these things,
Even the air we breathe
Are contractual.
As if everything in the universe
Leans on another
Like an endless row of dominoes.
The only question being:
Who pushed the first?
Emotions
Emotions leave no breadcrumbs.
They are converted, transformed
Like energy
Into something material
Something tangible
Irreducible
Raised into structure
By the hand that signed their existence.
